Key point if you read nothing else below: There is a defect which Genesis UK have told me affects right hand drive cars (note they did not mention if it affects left hand drive cars). This defect can, under certain circumstances, allow water to get into the cabin air filter thus reducing air flow into the cabin and interfering with windscreen demisting. My evidence shows that water is getting past the filter and therefore could also be pooling elsewhere.
First car, delivered November 2022, was rejected in March 2023 because of water ingress into the cabin air filter saturating the filter and restricting airflow accompanied by an overpowering burning smell preventing the windscreen from demisting and resulting in a dangerous and frightening night-time journey in heavy rain.
A loan Genesis G70 diesel which had windscreen washer fluid leaking into the cabin.
Two further loan GV60s both had the same problem as our original car - also we were told one had a brand new tyre - it hadn’t - it had had a recent tyre REPAIR which failed a few days after we received it.
Our replacement GV60 delivered in August 2023 (later model year) had exactly the same problem as our original car. This car has also now been rejected and our Genesis ownership is over.
Genesis said we were the only people reporting this problem so I spent a long time investigating - taking photographs, videos etc.Eventually concluded it was to do with the angle of our drive and thus the angle of the car.
After taking detailed measurements, and setting up a GoPro camera to actually record inside the filter compartment (see video below) and sending them to Genesis they were finally, 6 months after I first reported it, able to reproduce the issue.
Genesis UK flew in engineers from the factory.
I am told the factory are working on a fix but there is no timeline and they have not said if this part will be retrofitted to existing cars.
Genesis UK have said all right hand drive cars have the defect (they did not mention left hand drive cars) but as noted above, whether you see symptoms depends on how you park the car.
Other owners are now reporting the problem.
There is an ongoing problem with the app whereby it is showing low tyre pressures even though the pressures are fine and the car shows no such problem.
After our final rejection of our second car, Genesis deducted an amount for usage. Clearly they don't believe the work I did for them in diagnosing this problem was worth anything financially to them.It took them almost three weeks to refund us and a further week to collect the car.
Our GPA moved into another role within Genesis but nobody had the courtesy to tell us.
The worst customer service I have experienced of any car manufacturer - taking ages to reply to emails - ignoring voicemails requesting callbacks etc. When they finally do reply, most emails have the word ‘sorry’ in them. After so many ‘sorrys’ it becomes meaningless.
I WOULD THINK VERY CAREFULLY ABOUT BUYING A GENESIS GV60 UNTIL THIS ISSUE IS RESOLVED.
Other points to be aware of:
Genesis UK still have over 20 original generation 2022 GV60s for sale on their website
Genesis is Hyundai's 'upmarket' brand. Nissan also had an 'upmarket' brand, Infiniti. Infiniti is no longer in the UK
Our cars had registration numbers:
OE72 ZRK
BD22 XTO
OE22 KJF
OW23 ETE
These videos show the problem - it is also clear from this that the filter can’t absorb all the water - so where else has it gone???
It's best to watch the second video in YouTube to get a fuller explanation but you can see water drops at 0:52, 1:13, 1:54, 3:35 and 3:46
